Bunnysprints – A reader’s gift :)

Or Why I switched from blogspot to my own domain 🙂

It took me quite a while to get here.

For years I was happy playing in the Blogspot sandbox. At the back of my mind, I knew that moving to my own website and domain would be necessary for visibility. Someday.

Of course, someday never came. I grew so comfortable in my blogger skin that I kept putting it off, until a reader wrote to me out of the blue.

“Hello Alexi,

Hey, you might want to get a real domain for more visibility. The domains bunnysprints, bunnyprints and etc are still available.”

I was taken aback by his subsequent offer:

“I don’t even mind buying a domain for you, it is just only 7$Usd for me.”

Was there really such a thing as a free lunch? Surely there was a prawn hiding behind the rock?

Then I scrolled to his post-script and found his reason for helping a complete stranger:

“Someone helped me before on the internet business and time for me to give back.”

Ok, so he wasn’t a fruitcake out to con gullible women.

I told him ya ya I’ll work on it and yadda yadda yadda …

Being the procrastinator that I am, I hemmed and hawed. The earth didn’t move for nearly two years, and two months ago, he delivered a long-overdue kick to my butt:

“I wrote to you 100 yrs back. I read your blog often. You should get your own website. You are a big girl now! Time to grow up. I tell you what … I will register that domain for you free for one year and even host it for you!!!”

Before I had a chance to pick up my jaw from the floor, the deed was already done.

Thanks to Chris Goh, I was now the proud new owner of my very own website.

After I recovered from my shock, I started writing content for the site, with Peter Wang, another reader, providing the technical expertise. I couldn’t possibly be so churlish – and foolish – as to waste his good intentions, could I?

So there you go.

Why, and how, after five years, I made the transition from bunnysprints.blogspot.com to bunnysprints.com 🙂

Alexi-Thank You for the kind words.
You sure know how to stroke a fruitcake’s ego but I’ll take all I can.
Also, thanks to Peter Wang for doing a fine job on the website.
Wishing you all the best in your new HOME.
    Humbly Yours,
    Chris

Wow....so lucky la you, got friends pushing you for this:)

Remember I asked you about starting my own blog......it's so terribly high to for me to do this but......shish....so terribly low tech of me, it seems mind-boggling to me to even handle things like design/ template (yay.....I knew what template means!!!), getting the colour/font and er....what blog name ah??? Anyway, one friend told me, since I own my website domain name, I should also incorporate my 'hopefully-soon-to-be-new blog' into my existing website. Err.......where is that webmaster of yours from Ipoh you suggested??

Yvonne: It is not that intimidating once you've had a go at it. Trust me - I was also a wordpress virgin until a few weeks ago! I'll make the intro and both of you can take it from there :)

Wei Hong and Chris: Thanks for your support guys. I love my readers :)

"He must be Koon Yew Yin ! ". .. That was my spontaneous response to your "Philanthropy at its best" which appeared in Star 2 today.
